Al Wasl Plaza will be central to Expo 2020 Dubai’s three Thematic Districts – Opportunity, Sustainability, and Mobility – on which construction was completed in May 2019. Constructed by UAE-based company AF Construction the value of the contract to develop Expo 2020 Dubai’s Thematic Districts was $599m (AED2.2bn).

ASGC built Expo 2020 Dubai’s Sustainability Pavilion, while ALEC built the Mobility Pavilion, with local real estate giant Emaar acting as development manager for both structures.

AF Construction – which also worked on the public walkways, retail, and food and beverage aspects of the Thematic Districts as part of its contract – is listed by ProTenders as Opportunity Pavilion’s general contractor. More than 100 million work hours have been completed to date at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, where 40,000 workers were present at the peak of construction as of second quarter 2019.
