Ankara-İstanbul high-speed train ticket to cost 80 TL!

The price of a high-speed train ticket for a line currently being constructed between Ankara and İstanbul will be set between TL 70 and TL 80 person higher than travel by bus but less expensive than a plane ticket sources say.

As the completion of the line nears, the details regarding travel time, the number of stations and the cost of tickets have surfaced. Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Monday that the high-speed rail line project will miss its scheduled deadline of Jan. 1 and will instead launch in February or March. The date had already been revised from Oct. 29 to the end of this year.

Sources say the travel time between the two cities will be three hours and 15 minutes. It was earlier thought to take three hours, but another 15 minutes has been added because workers were not able to complete the construction of a tunnel in Sakarya. There will be 12 stations and the train will stop in Ankara, Sincan, Polatlı, Eskişehir, Bozüyük, Bilecik, Pamukova, Arifiye, Sapanca, İzmit, Gebze and Pendik.

Travel time between İstanbul and Ankara is normally a five-hour journey by car. Turkey’s first high-speed line, between Ankara and Eskişehir in Central Anatolia, has been operating since 2009, making the country’s national rail company the sixth in Europe to offer high-speed rail service.
