OSK confirmed it was in negotiations to bring the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand back to Melbourne, after selecting the iconic New York-listed hotel company as the preferred operator following a shortlisting process.

Michael Longmire, OSK Property’s general manager, said the developer was working closely with the Hilton development team to finalise the necessary agreements for the international hotel to come in as the hotel operator, as well as with their design team and Cox Architects to finalise the hotel design.

The hotel is planned to be the largest mixed-use project in the city. The hotel will have commercial areas, a child care center, dining and retail facilities.

“We look forward to revealing more on the final vision for this landmark hotel at the conclusion of this process,” said Mr Longmire.

Hilton has previously opened 7 hotels in Australia. Among these hotels, 579-room Hilton is located in Sydney. The Hilton opened its first property in Australia 45 years ago in Melbourne.

Hilton Melbourne, another Hilton hotel in Melbourne, sold to a different brand in 2017. Apart from these, Hilton Melbourne has a hotel with 180 rooms.

“Assuming all goes as planned, the proposed hotel will be part of Stage 2 in the Melbourne Square development and will likely include 600 rooms, globally acclaimed food and beverage offerings and guest amenities rivalling the very best global hotel,” Mr Longmire said.
