Former Minister Çağlayan had resigned on Wednesday as his son was among 24 people who were arrested on graft charges on Dec. 21. He had stated his resignation was to “help the truth come out and to foil the ugly plot.”
Zeybekçi, who was born in 1961, was a Central Executive and Steering Committee (MKYK) member of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
Denizli-born Zeybekçi graduated from Marmara University with a degree in business administration and completed his graduate degree in international relations at İstanbul University. He also studied economics at the South London College in England.
Zeybekçi worked in the private sector after finishing school and established his own textile company, Turkuaz Tekstil, in 1994. Previously, he was two-time president of the Denizli Textile and Apparel Exporters Union and was mayor of Denizli between 2004 and 2011. Zeybekçi is married and has four children.
