Cousins Properties Inc. will design new Norfolk Southern headquarters in Atlanta.

The company has hired Pickard Chilton to design the new headquarters of Norfolk Southern Corp. The transportation company is relocating from Norfolk, Va., to a 1-million-square-foot office development in Atlanta’s Technology Square district.

In addition, a groundbreaking ceremony took place on March 26th and the completion date is estimated in the third quarter of 2021. The construction cost is expected to amount to roughly $550 million.

The office is situated on a 3.4-acre site at 650 W. Peachtree St. N.E., between Ponce de Leon Avenue and Third Street, Norfolk Southern’s. It will consist of two towers connected by a five story campus style hub, that will feature multiple roof terraces and 2000 parking spaces. Amenities will include a dining facility, rooftop garden and private greenspace, a fitness center, conference and training facilities, on site child care, as well as individual and shared workspaces.

The new corporate headquarters will bring together employees from the company’s Norfolk, Virginia and Midtown Atlanta locations, as well as several hundred dispatcher, administrative and supervisory personnel from its nine divisions across the eastern U.S. The move is expected to bring 850 jobs to the region.
