Tunisia plans to start construction of new cement plant
The construction of the first cement plant in Bir Thlathin, southern Tataouine, will begin in March 2019. This project will be carried out by French group United cement investor. The cost of the project amounts to $312mln.
According to Zawya’s a news, the cement plant will ofer a high quality product using non polluting advanced technology. It will be equipped with a system that will save water extracted from salted groundwater at a rate of 11 litres per tonne. The electricity needs will be provided through the optimisation of the thermal energy of the kiln of the cement plant. In addition, a district composed of various commodities will be installed near the cement plant for the benefit of the employees. They will benefit from training sessions in line with their scientific and technical skills.
This project wiil be ready by 2022 with a production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of clinker and 1.5 million tonnes of cement.
